DUTCH GIRL:AUDREY HEPBURN by Robert Matzen

I am a HUGE fan of Audrey Hepburn, and “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” is one of my all time favorite movies, (and book of course!)

However, beyond her film career I knew very little about her.

This is the PERFECT book for Audrey Hepburn fans! Do not expect a “Hollywood Royalty” story, this book covers her childhood and her experiences during the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands.

As a Holocaust researcher, I was shocked that I didn’t know she was in the Netherlands during WWII.

“We saw young men put against the wall and shot, and they’d close the street and then open it again and you could pass by again…Don’t discount anything awful you hear or read about the Nazis. It’s worse than you could ever imagine.”

~Hepburn on the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands

This book is long, as it is very detailed, but it does not get boring at all!

I will definitely read this book over again and again.

It left me with a greater appreciation for the Actress who has entertained me, whose quotes have inspired me, and whose sense of fashion has found its way to my own closet.

Recently, I was fortunate enough to go see a showing of “Breakfast at Tiffany’s in Concert.”

It was an amazing show! It is hard to do it justice when describing it.

During the speaking parts, you heard the voices of the actors/actresses on screen, but the score was played by a live orchestra onstage.

If it ever comes to your area, be sure to go see it!
